Cairns Lagoon and Esplanade
One of the best places to go and enjoy a great day of relaxation and fun activities is Cairns Esplanade Lagoon. It is a top-rated facility that includes a massive 4800 square meters saltwater swimming lagoon open for everyone. It offers a safe swimming venue free of stingers or crocodiles.
Besides swimming in the lagoon, people can also enjoy a day of cooking with the family using its twelve barbecue facilities and then have a picnic at several tables around the park grounds. But for convenience, it also has a couple of restaurants and coffee shops offering various food choices.
The Cairns Swimming Lagoon is also very popular with backpackers to meet, socialize, or enjoy sunbathing. Locals and tourists can use different exercise equipment found around the park and esplanade boardwalk.
Cairns Lagoon
Cairns Lagoon has sandy shores and is situated on the bank of the Trinity Harbour. It has timber decking that surrounds its 4800 square meters saltwater swimming pool. Its saltwater supply comes from the trinity inlet and filtred using a state of the art filtration system that keeps the water’s cleanliness and quality.
The swimming pool, which is located in the centre of the Cairns business district, is a top-rated attraction for locals and tourists, which are seen strolling and relaxing on its grassy area or dipping in its crystal clear water. It’s a terrific place to go, especially during sweltering temperatures.
The lagoon has a depth ranging from 32 inches to five feet and has unique underwater benches where people can sit and relax. Although it’s a large area, safety is ensured by Life Guards, who continuously patrol the large lagoon area and look after the hundreds of swimmers.
Cairns Esplanade Boardwalk
Cairns Esplanade Boardwalk is densely covered with manicured grass and planted with large trees that offer ample shade. So on a hot day, visitors can walk around and enjoy the greenery and cool shade from the trees. The boardwalk is a favourite of physically active visitors due to exercise equipment, tennis courts, and even a skate park for teenagers or even adults.
It is also a favourite for cyclists, joggers, power walkers, yoga enthusiasts, or people who want a leisurely walk on its timber boardwalk. The views of the lagoon are also stunning.
Muddy’s Playground
A short distance from the Esplanade Boardwalk is a family favourite, Muddy’s Playground. Families or groups of friends can play beach volleyball or enjoy the Healing Garden playground. It also has a skatepark, and at its northern part, you will see the Funship Playground.
Muddy’s Playground is one of Australia’s best playgrounds. It has many children’s activities, including a water park that features ankle-deep water where kids can splash in the water. The Playground has three different sections designed and equipped for other age groups. They have slides, playhouses, rope bridges, see-saws, flying foxes, and many more children’s activities.
After all the activities, visitors can eat at the picnic tables or have a barbecue. They can also go to the cafe located in the area or find a lovely shade to relax.
